Hi, I’m sending you warm greetings from Berlin. I don’t know if you remember me—or us. Alexandra and I lived in Toronto from 2014 to 2018 and visited Cabin Fever quite often. We played the pinball machines, listened to the great music, and shared plenty of beers there.
Shortly before we moved back to Germany, we spoke for the first time. I told you that I’m a writer working on a lengthy utopian novel set in three locations, one of which is heavily inspired by Cabin Fever and its unique atmosphere.
The novel was published in German last year. In English, its title would be Seduction of the Innocent.
In the book, Cabin Fever serves as one of the main settings, though I’ve named it Sadie. It’s a haven where young artists gather, have fun, and find happiness—just like the real Cabin Fever. I wanted to immortalize the bar in my writing. While I made a few changes (I transplanted Sadie to Germany’s Ruhr region), many details remain the same: the great music, the layout, the little staircase leading to the pinball machines, the basement restrooms, and the bar with the fridges behind it, right where you used to stand…
